Who are we?
We're more than a manufacturer of desktop storage, we're an idea generator, a think tank. We know how important your data is, and we know how important it is to have it readily accessible. So, if there's a faster way to access your important data, a smaller way to store it, or a more portable way to take it with you, we'll be the first on its trail, and in almost every case, the first to have a product that makes it happen for you. Our best ideas store yours... is more than our slogan. We don't just give you storage products, we give you storage solutions.
Who uses our products?
Anybody who recognizes that performance and reliability in computer storage are important. Multimedia developers, educators, IT professionals, and even computer forensic analysts know they can count on WiebeTech products.
The forensic customer base of WiebeTech is a true Who's Who of the federal government. WiebeTech's forensic products are in use at the following agencies: FBI, Secret Service, ATF, IRS Criminal Investigation, and others. Products are also in use in a variety of foreign governments, including Canada and the UK.
WiebeTech's products are distributed by numerous distributors and dealers, including Synnex, PCMall, MacMall, PCMallGov, and SmallDog. Foreign distributors include AM Micro in the UK, and Focal Point in Japan. There are many other European distributors as well.
How did we begin?
In July 2000 James Wiebe recognized he had an opportunity. Already a computer industry veteran with 25 years of computer industry expertise, James was also a proven entrepreneur. As a founder and President/CEO of Newer Technology, he led that company in its best times, seeing it reach annual sales of over $60 million and attain a leading position as provider of computer upgrades.
Always looking for a better mousetrap, James was quick to see growing potential of higher and higher capacity storage being contained in smaller and smaller packages. While everyone else was touting their 256MB USB keychains, James came up with the FireWire KeyChain, holding up to 1 gigabyte. It was introduced at 2002 Macworld Expo in San Francisco to much acclaim.
In addition, James also realized that there had to be a way to more easily retrieve data from stray hard drives without having to put them in an enclosure. Voila! The introduction of the extremely popular FireWire DriveDock product line. Following close behind were the bus-powered versions which allowed access to drives through FireWire without an AC adapter.
Shortly after, computer forensic analysts challenged James to write-block the DriveDock, allowing read-only access to suspect data, qualifying it as an important tool in the computer forensic arsenal used in criminal investigations.
Even the location of WiebeTech's corporate headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, contributed to one of the premium features of WiebeTech products - its aluminum enclosures. Since Wichita is touted as the "aircraft capital of the world," when Wiebe went looking for someone to build his prototypes, aluminum was right in his backyard.
The people of WiebeTech were right in his backyard, too, including his wife, Kathy Wiebe, who as a marketing veteran, helped launch WiebeTech.
James is an experienced pilot who loves to fly his Cessna 206 on business and pleasure. The most exciting flights are to the Idaho back country where he and his buddies enjoy fly fishing, another one of his passions.
In January 2008, the Wiebes sold WiebeTech to CRU-DataPort, who continues WiebeTech as a unique brand. The creativity of WiebeTech, combined with CRU-DataPort's finances, distribution channel and supply chain are now here to serve WiebeTech's customers and product line. With this in mind, many new product launches are scheduled for release in 2008/2009.
WiebeTech's people are the best.
Our People
A call or email to WiebeTech will most likely place you in the sales department where you'll find friendly and knowledgable voices.
Michael Gaskins is one of WiebeTech's first employees, and his cheerful and knowledgeable manner in providing quality customer care has gained WiebeTech a reputation for absolute competence on issues related to storage. He's also the recorded voice you hear when you call WiebeTech. Seems only natural for someone who's won awards in area competitions for Toastmasters International.
Michael started working with the Mac 512 and PS2 as a sales manager for a typographic services company. "I liked working with the Mac so much I learned everything I could." He worked on the Mac as a graphic artist, became proficient in hardware and doubled as a system administrator. "I understand the needs of our customers because I have walked in their shoes."
Outside of WiebeTech, Michael and his wife Sheri take on a different demeanor, one that goes as far back as the Old West. They both perform Living History portrayals and Old West reenacting. Michael is the winner of the 2004 A.F.O.W.R. National Living History competition.
Operations of the Company are headed by Mark McClain. Mark is responsible for the operation and material flow of WiebeTech. Mark is a Microsoft Certified Professional and a Cisco Certified Instructor. He started in the computer industry in 1980 after graduating from Electronic Institute of Technolgy in KCMO. He's worked as a field service engineer at Texas Instruments, Bell South and Inacom. He also hails from Newer Technology where he was technical operations manager. He was also site technology specialist at Wichita West High School in charge of 1350 users, 3 file servers, 700+ computers and also as acting web master.
In his spare time, Mark is a DJ & KJ and is popular in the community for school dances, proms, weddings and private parties.
Bill Head is responsible for WiebeTech's customer support. Bill is one of the most well-rounded employees of WiebeTech. With degrees in sociology, music and a nearly completed masters in American History, Bill has been an elementary school teacher, a musician in Wichita's Symphony Orchestra, a private music lesson instructor and a graduate teaching assistant in the history program at Wichita State University. Bill's organizational ability and systems management are moving our tech support to a new level. Bill says, "I owe all my happiness and success to my wonderful wife, Theresa, who has always offered emotional support and encouragement. She makes me want to be the best person I can be."
We appreciate your interest in WiebeTech and its products. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to send an email to James and you will receive a personal answer.
